Just like human athletes, there is a battery of people that make sure our
competition horses are given the best opportunity to be all they can
be.

Arthur Hult |
For instance, Arthur Hult from
Wyoming, New York has many years of experience in equine dentistry. He sees to
it that our horses' teeth are in good shape for us to maintain or develop good,
soft, responsive mouths. Many of the problems horses come in with, such as not
being supple one way, or won't stop well etc. can be solved by calling a good
dentist. |
Meet Gary Patton our
farrier. Gary has been shoeing for the Lazy J 15 or 16 years. As the old saying
goes, "no feet - no horse". How very true this is. Unlevel, unbalanced feet with
the wrong angle can not only hinder a horse's performance, but also can cause
unsoundness and even chronic lameness. We need good blacksmiths that are trained
to corrective shoe and are familiar with our particular discipline. |

Dean Wright |
Dean Wright, also from New
York, is our chiropractor. It is surprising how many horses need an adjustment.
Being cast in the stall, hauling accidents, falls, ill-fitting saddles etc. all
add up to needing this service. |
Good veterinarians, like our farrier, must be people we can communicate well
with and trust their judgment. Look for ones that are equipped to handle large
animals' needs, such as portable x-ray machines, scopes, ultrasound equipment
etc. Above all, make sure they love what they do, as horses like children get
sick late at night, during storms, on weekends, and preferably on
holidays!
